Yoga And Its Benefits

Yoga has been around for about 5,000 years. Many people are familiar with yoga in concept, but many people also do not understand what yoga is, or how yoga works, or – most importantly – why yoga is good for the body. Although yoga is typically associated with Eastern religion, yoga can benefit anyone, regardless of their religious background or beliefs; at its core, yoga is nothing more than stretching exercises that are designed to benefit the mind and the body. Yoga has many benefits, but three of the benefits most pertinent to everyday life are those that yoga has on a body’s breathing, heart, and mind.

Of course, we know that breathing is among the most important elements of life – after all, if you do not breathe, you cannot live. But many people fail to realize that they can improve their breathing. Yoga improves lung capacity by focusing on deep, mindful breathing. For those who play sports, this can be extremely beneficial, as performance and endurance are improved. But even for those who do not play sports, better breathing can be extremely beneficial in your daily life.

A healthy heart translates to a healthy body. The area most focused on, throughout all the various studies of the health benefits of yoga, has been that of the correlation between yoga and a healthy heart. Yoga can slow the body’s heart rate, and it can also lower the body’s blood pressure. Yoga has also been proven to help boost the immune system, and it has been proven to aid in decreasing cholesterol. In fact, yoga can even reverse heart disease; this is how beneficial yoga can be!

Yoga also has an immensely positive impact on the mind. It has been proven that the practice of yoga can reduce the risk of depression; yoga can also increase concentration and decrease stress levels. A difficult-to-achieve sense of wellness and calm is created through yoga, as hormone neurotransmitter levels are lowered and oxygen levels in the brain are increased.

You can practice yoga in as little as 15 to 20 minutes each day. If you practice yoga regularly, you can improve your body’s respiration, circulation, and mental wellbeing. Consider adding yoga to your daily routine – you won’t be disappointed with the results!

Fitness Instructor Courses

I have been a health and fitness fanatic for quite some time now, and although I have only just recently started taking my first fitness instructor course lessons, I can see already that it is the culmination of the lifelong passion for physical activity. Growing up on a farm in the Midwest, I have known the importance of keeping active since I was a child. We had a lot of farm chores to do, but when we were done with all the work at the end of the day, we would go out to explore the beautiful pristine nature. I kept myself busy all the time outdoors. I would even do my schoolwork outdoors when the weather permitted it.

Building Your Home Yoga Practice

So you want to start a home yoga practice, but you aren’t sure how. Home yoga practices have many advantages including solitude, privacy, and the freedom to tailor your practice to your specific needs.

To start, you’ll want to invest in the proper equipment for a yoga practice. Every home practice requires a yoga mat, a block, and some sort of yoga guide such as a DVD or book that will help you identify which asana you want to work into your practice. You may want to buy a comfortable but form-fitting yoga workout outfit so you won’t have the distraction of floppy oversized tee shirts that ride up or pants that compress your stomach.

Since this is your practice, you get to select the specific asana for your routine. Most people like to follow an instructor’s guidance so they won’t have to think up a yoga routine, especially since yoga works best when they poses flow into one another smoothly, without interruption. Many people like to follow the traditional Ashtanga sequence of poses, which you can find in a variety of mediums. If you like to be original, you can pick and choose poses from various sources and create your own routine.

When you begin each session, you’ll want to meditate in a lotus position for a moment and release any concerns or stress. Then move into poses that stretch your muscles, preparing them for the more difficult poses. After some stretching, you can move through a series of athletically challenging poses, resting when needed. End your routine with corpse pose, relaxing for a good three to five minutes.

The best yoga routines combine pranayama (breathing exercises) with the movement from pose to pose. Many people choose to insert a deliberate intention into their home yoga routine, practicing loving kindness meditation or mindfulness meditation. Over time you’ll find your home yoga pratice will become a grounding source of serenity and self discipline.

Yoga for Beginners

Yoga began in India as a practice of physical well-being and spiritual commitment in the religions of Hinduism and Buddhism. Today, people around the world practice two main types of this ancient practice that’s been modernized. These new practices are called Ashtanga and Anusara. Ashtanga yoga was brought to the western world by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (1915 – 2009). It is a practice of yoga that focuses on creating internal heat and pure, detoxifying sweat. This practice of yoga utilizes breathing exercises along with a series of poses to provide bodily strength and peace of mind.

Establishing Your Own Home Yoga Practice

If you love yoga but you don’t want to go into the gym, you may want to start your own home practice. A home yoga practice has the advantage of being private, tailored for your needs, and it saves you the time going to and from the studio or fitness center.

To start, you’ll want to invest in the proper equipment for a yoga practice. You’ll need a yoga mat, a yoga block, and either a book or DVD that explains how to perform at least two dozen asana (poses). You may want to buy a comfortable but form-fitting yoga workout outfit so you won’t have the distraction of floppy oversized tee shirts that ride up or pants that compress your stomach.

To start, you’ll want to choose yoga poses for your practice.

You may benefit from a DVD so you can follow an instructor if you have trouble selecting poses from a book. A traditional routine might follow the twenty-six asana laid out in the Ashtanga sequence, which you can find in a traditional yoga book or Ashtanga DVD. Or you can combine various poses in your own order so as to create an independent and unique routine.

When starting your practice, take time to meditate, setting aside the worries of the day. Then assume a stretching series of poses, such as sun salutations. After you have stretched adequately, you can take on increasingly difficult poses, taking rests when required. End your routine with corpse pose, relaxing for a good three to five minutes.

You’ll want to learn pranayama, or breathing exercises, so that you learn how to breathe through the poses. You may find it powerful to add a form of spritual meditation into your routine such as metta meditation (loving kindness) or vipassana meditation (accepting physical sensations and emotions as they come). With time, your yoga practice will become an essential piece of your life, bringing with it many health rewards.

Exercise Balls – The Benefits

Exercise balls are one of the most innovative ways to exercise. These little balls catch every one’s fancy due to their shape and very attractive colors. The real benefit of these balls, which were introduced by a group of Swiss medical therapists, is a substitute of support during exercise.

Working out with the exercise balls will strengthen and tone all of the major muscles of the body. The soft texture of the balls make it an ideal choice for Yoga positions, using dumbbells for muscle toning, or working on heavy duty weight training equipment.
